Indiana’s Electric Vehicle Charging Network Is Set for Major Growth
Indiana is charging ahead in the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, with a significant boost coming to its public charging infrastructure. GOEVIN (Go Electric Vehicle Indiana) recently revealed the recipients of their latest funding round, unleashing more than $3.3 million dedicated to the development of 36 new charging stations across the state. This investment, partly sourced from Volkswagen mitigation funds, aims to close key gaps in Indiana’s fast-growing EV landscape.
Detailed Expansion: 18 DC Fast Chargers and 18 Level 2 Charging Stations
The new funding will support the installation of 18 cutting-edge DC fast charger sites and 18 Level 2 charging stations strategically located throughout Indiana. DC fast chargers will primarily be constructed along the state’s designated Alternative Fuel Corridors – convenient routes connected to major highways and busy travel centers, restaurants, and shopping complexes. This ensures EV drivers have round-the-clock access to high-speed charging, making long-distance travel across Indiana more seamless and reliable.
Level 2 chargers will be distributed both in urban settings and rural communities, situated in areas where vehicles are parked for longer periods, such as office complexes and public parking lots. GOEVIN emphasizes that visibility and strategic placement have guided station selection, maximizing the benefit for both daily commuters and weekend adventurers.
Pilot Emerges as a Big Winner in the Charging Expansion
One of the most notable developments in this expansion is the significant role being played by Pilot. After initially appearing on the NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) program’s list of fast-charging sites, Pilot has resurfaced as a major participant in the GOEVIN roster, now accounting for eight of the selected fast charger locations. This positions Pilot as a key player in Indiana’s pursuit of comprehensive EV infrastructure.

This initiative is part of Indiana’s broader strategy to position itself as a leader in EV adoption. With more than $13 billion already invested statewide in EV and battery production, these new public charging stations reinforce the state’s commitment to a cleaner, electrified future. Construction on the new charging sites is slated to begin in the fall, with all 36 projects on track to be completed by the end of 2026.
A Look at EV Charging Technology and Performance
The introduction of 18 DC fast chargers drastically reduces charging times compared to traditional Level 2 units. For example, a typical fast charger can replenish a compatible EV’s battery from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes, making them ideal for drivers on the move. Level 2 stations, on the other hand, deliver convenience for longer stays and overnight parking, supporting a broad range of electric vehicle models and user needs.
