Samsung S27 Ultra Redesign Rumor May Have Fizzled Out

Put down the render frenzy. What looked like a tidy fix for wireless charging — moving the camera island so magnets could be added to the Galaxy S27 family — might never make it past the drawing board.

Back in April, a Korean scoop suggested Samsung was rethinking the rear layout for the entire S27 lineup, and designers quickly produced renders imagining a horizontal camera island and room for charging magnets. The internet obliged with mockups and hot takes. Short headlines followed. Expectations rose.

Now another Korean source says those mockups were premature. According to this report, Samsung hasn’t settled on any single direction. Multiple concepts are still under review, and the simple horizontal layout you may have seen is apparently not among the confirmed options. In plain terms: don’t treat leaked images as blueprints.

There’s an especially interesting twist. The rumor claims Samsung could simply abandon the magnet plan entirely. If that happens, the S27 Ultra would keep a vertical camera island much like the S26 and S26+. That would mean a smaller visual gap between the S27 Ultra and the vanilla S27 models than many expected — except for the likely loss of one camera module, which simplifies the hardware without a full redesign.

Why the hesitation? Early-stage engineering is full of tradeoffs. Magnets for stable wireless charging need space and thermal headroom, and changing the rear architecture touches supply chains and accessory ecosystems. A design that looks good on paper can cause headaches on the factory floor.

Rumors are useful. They tease possibilities. They aren’t commitments. With the S27 program still in its early phases, plans can shift fast and quietly. So that dramatic horizontal camera bar? It might be a footnote rather than the headline.

Whether Samsung pivots or presses on, expect more leaks, more renders, and more speculation between now and the launch — and maybe a surprise that no render predicted at all.
