Aiva reveals fast battery-swap strategy for its first EV
Aiva, a new EV marque backed by Chongqing Sidu Technology, has unveiled plans to launch its first production vehicle—the Aiva ME7—around the end of this year with a standout feature: ultra-fast battery swapping. Instead of waiting tens of minutes for a charging session, drivers could replace a depleted pack in moments, turning long charging stops into quick pit stops.
Partnerships and infrastructure
Behind the plan is a collaboration with industry heavyweight CATL to integrate the latter's Chocolate battery-swap network. Negotiations are underway to make the ME7 compatible with CATL's standardized swap stations. The infrastructure is already growing fast: by June 2026 CATL had activated more than 2,000 swap stations across 180 Chinese cities.

Aiva benefits from a joint-shareholding structure involving Chongqing's state assets, Seres, and CATL, which recently raised about 6.671 billion yuan (roughly $1 billion) to scale production and swap infrastructure. Seres will manage manufacturing and quality control at the Phoenix plant, while CATL supplies the swap-ready packs.
Specs and market positioning
The ME7 is expected to support Chocolate Pack #26 — an 800V architecture with about 75 kWh usable capacity. That configuration targets larger SUV-range performance and efficient long-distance cruising. By separating the battery cost from the vehicle price (battery-as-a-service), Aiva aims to start with a more competitive base price above 200,000 yuan (~$29,400), making it more attractive against other premium electric SUVs.

Highlights:
- 800V battery architecture for faster energy transfer
- 75 kWh pack tuned for large-segment range and performance
- Integration with CATL Chocolate swap stations (2,000+ operational)
- Production and QC handled by Seres at Phoenix factory

Smart cabin and driver assistance
Aiva is also packing modern software: the ME7's intelligent cabin will run on the DuBao language model from Volcano Engine, while driver assistance systems will be supplied by DeepRoute. Expect an emphasis on in-cabin AI features, connected services, and advanced ADAS for highway and urban driving.

Quote: 'Battery swapping could change ownership economics and downtime for EV drivers,' industry insiders say. For buyers and fleet operators who value uptime, Aiva's approach offers a compelling alternative to fast charging.
Watch for official ME7 launch details before year-end and early 2027 pre-sales aimed at China and overseas markets. The big question now is whether swap networks scale fast enough outside China to make this model globally disruptive.
