BMW iX3 Tops 100,000 Orders as Debrecen Runs 24 - 7 Shift

BMW has received 100,000 orders for the iX3 in Europe within its first year, prompting the Debrecen plant to move to a three-shift, round-the-clock production schedule.

The iX3 reached the six-figure milestone in Europe inside its first year on sale, making it the most successful first-year model launch in BMW history. The electric crossover represents one in every three fully electric BMWs ordered across Europe, and it accounts for roughly 50 percent of orders within the X3 family there. The model passed 50,000 orders six months after launch and doubled that total over the following six months.

BMW global sales chief Jochen Goller flagged accelerating European demand in July as the model approached the 100,000 threshold, and the company has now confirmed the figure. To keep pace with the surge, BMW has adapted production of the second-generation iX3 at its Debrecen, Hungary, plant by adding a third shift and running the factory around the clock.

Production footprint and timing

Series production of the then-new iX3 began in late October 2025 at Debrecen. The plant reached its 50,000th unit by late July 2026, the fastest production ramp-up in BMW’s history for a single factory. According to a report in Der Spiegel, 50,000 customers have already received their vehicles while the remaining orders are awaiting delivery.

The iX3 is currently built exclusively in Hungary. BMW plans a standard-wheelbase version to enter production in Mexico in 2027, and a long-wheelbase iX3 will be produced in China at the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint-venture plant in Shenyang.

U.S. launch and technical details

Driven by the model’s performance in Europe, BMW advanced the iX3’s U.S. rollout. BMW North America instructed dealers to begin immediate customer deliveries ahead of a previously scheduled late-September market debut. U.S. customers can order the iX3 50 xDrive, offered with Sport, M Sport, or M Sport Professional styling packages, with pricing starting at $61,500.

The iX3 50 xDrive uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain that BMW lists at 463 horsepower (469 metric horsepower) and 476 pound-feet (645 Newton meters) of torque, with a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph (210 kph). The battery is specified at 112.2 kWh, and BMW reports a driving range of up to 383 miles (616 kilometers) with summer tires or up to 434 miles (698 kilometers) on heavy-duty all-season tires. The model supports peak DC fast-charging rates up to 400 kW, enabling a 10 to 80 percent charge in about 21 minutes, per BMW’s figures.
