Honda V3R 900 E-Compressor Unveiled at EICMA 2025 Showcase

Honda unveiled the V3R 900 E-Compressor prototype at EICMA 2025, a 900cc, 75 degree V3 with an electric supercharger. Honda says the E-Compressor targets instant low-end torque and 1200cc-equivalent output from a compact unit.

Honda revealed the V3R 900 E-Compressor prototype at EICMA 2025, presenting a muscular naked bike built around an unusual new engine. The company showed the package as a technology demonstrator rather than announcing a specific production model, and it has not confirmed a production CBR or other single-vehicle program based on the unit.

The powerplant itself is a 900 cubic centimeter, three cylinder V configuration set at a 75 degree angle, and it is fitted with an electric supercharger Honda calls an E-Compressor. Honda says the electric compressor delivers boost and increased intake pressure without relying on engine revs or exhaust gas energy, with the stated aim of extracting instant low end torque and of achieving the performance of a 1200 cubic centimeter engine from this compact 900 cc unit.

Honda positions the layout as a compact, high-torque solution for low and mid range performance rather than a high revving, peak-power exercise.

That combination of immediate torque and a short, dense package is precisely what makes the concept interesting for adventure and sport touring applications, where full load pulling and tractable low speed torque matter. Honda has a recent track record of introducing advanced systems into those classes, notably bringing a dual clutch transmission to the CRF1000L and CRF1100L Africa Twin models. Earlier technical moves include the adoption of variable valve timing technology that later influenced the VFR800, and the introduction of DCT on the VFR1200F in 2010, a gearbox that later migrated to NC models and the Gold Wing. More recently, Honda has developed clutchless electronic shifting systems that make gear changes possible without using the clutch lever.

Beyond adventure bikes, the most compelling product scenarios for the V3 layout range from a nimble lightweight sport machine that follows the balance-first philosophy of the 1992 CBR900RR to new sport tourers and full blown adventure models. The engine's compactness and low down torque make it a candidate for models that prioritise usable performance and rideability over extreme peak horsepower figures.

Where this sits in Honda's development roadmap

Honda frames the V3R 900 E-Compressor as more than a single prototype. The motorcycle shown at EICMA carried the brand's new Flagship Wing badge, a mark Honda has said will identify future flagship models, signaling that the company intends to explore wider application of the architecture across multiple model lines.

At EICMA 2025 Honda left the project clearly in demonstrator form, but the presence of the Flagship Wing badge and the company statements about intent indicate the V3R 900 E-Compressor is intended as a platform technology that could influence several forthcoming motorcycles.
