BMW has unveiled the iX4, an electric coupe SUV built on its Neo Class platform, and says the model can achieve an EPA estimated range of 688 km. The iX4 is the third vehicle BMW intends to bring to market on the Neo Class architecture, following the i3 sedan and the iX3 SUV, and BMW positions the model as part of its response to Chinese electric vehicles while competing with global automakers.

Powertrains and performance
BMW will launch the iX4 50 xDrive in March 2027 (Esfand and Farvardin) with a base price of $66,200. That two motor 50 xDrive trim produces 463 horsepower and 644 newton metres of torque and is rated to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 4.7 seconds. A higher performance M60 xDrive arrives later in 2027 and raises output to 603 horsepower and 874 newton metres, with a 0 to 96 km/h time of 3.7 seconds.

Battery, charging and range
The iX4 uses a high voltage Gen6 battery with a usable capacity of 112.2 kWh and an 800 volt architecture. BMW says the Gen6 pack relies on cylindrical lithium ion cells measuring 46 mm in diameter and 95 mm in height and that overall energy density is 20 percent higher than the previous generation.

Charging hardware is rated up to 400 kW, with BMW stating a 10-80% charge can be achieved in 21 minutes and that 10 minutes of charging will add enough range for approximately 296 km. The 688 km range figure is attributed to the United States Environmental Protection Agency test cycle.
