AMG expands Edition R lineup with GLE 53 SUV and Coupe
Mercedes-AMG has extended its Edition R treatment to the GLE 53 range, introducing both the SUV and Coupe variants with visual upgrades, richer interior trim and a handful of optional Manufaktur touches. The new models follow Edition R versions of the C 43, GLC 43 and other compact AMG models, bringing the special package to the brand's sporty executive crossovers.
What sets the Edition R apart?
The Edition R specification focuses on exterior presence and cabin detailing rather than additional performance. Key highlights include 22-inch forged cross-spoke AMG wheels with a high-sheen rim flange and a matte black finish, paired with red brake calipers bearing black AMG lettering and a high-performance composite braking system. Customers can also choose bespoke paint finishes from Mercedes' Manufaktur portfolio.
Inside, both the SUV and Coupe receive upgraded trim and contrast details: brushed aluminium accents, red seatbelts and specific upholstery treatments. The GLE 53 Edition R features an AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather and Microcut microfiber with dedicated AMG buttons, plus Artico leather seats with red stitching. The Coupé variant is offered with black AMG Nappa leather for a more dramatic interior tone.
Standard equipment and tech
Besides the Edition R upgrades, the standard GLE 53 package already includes a long list of features that customers expect in this segment: the AMG Night Package, transparent hood technology, a panoramic sliding sunroof, augmented reality navigation guidance, AMG steering-wheel controls and an AMG Performance Exhaust. Mechanically, nothing changes for the Edition R models. Both the SUV and Coupe use the same turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid electrified assistance. Output is rated at 320 kW (435 PS / 429 hp) with 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. Mercedes quotes a 0–100 km/h sprint in a little over five seconds for both cars, which places them a full second or so behind the range-topping GLE 63 models. Top speed remains electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

In Australia the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Edition R SUV starts from AU$184,100, while the Coupe Edition R begins from AU$188,100. These are manufacturer recommended local list prices (MRLP) and include GST and any Luxury Car Tax where applicable but exclude on-road costs such as registration, compulsory third-party insurance and stamp duty.
For US buyers the GLE 53 family appears in the 2026 model year. The standard GLE 53 4MATIC+ SUV starts at around US$90,000, with the Coupe version from about US$92,150. For comparison, the higher-performance AMG GLE 63 and AMG GLE 63 Coupe carry MSRPs near US$131,800 and US$133,150 respectively.
