Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Spotted at Nürburgring Tests

Mercedes-AMG is testing an all-new GT Black Series at the Nürburgring, with spy photos showing pronounced aerodynamic upgrades and track-focused hardware. The prototype suggests a significantly more extreme model than the current GT, and Mercedes has indicated a late-2026 or early-2027 debut window.

Prototype appearance and aerodynamic package

Soon-to-be-unveiled mule shots show heavy camouflage but reveal a substantially revised exterior tailored for downforce. Notable visible changes include a redesigned front grille, a new front bumper with an integrated splitter, a vented hood, and revised side skirts. A large, fixed rear wing dominates the silhouette and is paired with a motorsport-style rear bumper and an aggressive diffuser. Active flaps, multiple scoops and other aero elements are also visible on the bodywork.

The rear-end treatment bears a superficial resemblance to the new-gen Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (electric model) but follows distinct, race-oriented packaging. The prototype was photographed on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires mounted on exclusive wheels, indicating a dedicated wheel-and-tyre specification for track work.

Powertrain, chassis upgrades and predecessor figures

Mercedes has not confirmed final powertrain details for the Black Series prototype. Spy-camera evidence and technical lineage point to a heavily reworked flat-plane crank V8 related to the unit used in Mercedes-AMG models such as the CLE 646, with additional tuning and mechanical upgrades expected for higher output and track durability.

While the CLE 646’s powertrain includes a mild-hybrid system and a nine-speed automatic sending drive to the rear wheels, the Black Series is expected to receive a significantly uprated V8. Sources and visual cues suggest the new Black Series could exceed 800 horsepower, though that figure remains unconfirmed and should be treated as probable rather than official. Mercedes will also fit a dedicated chassis setup and upgraded brakes to handle the anticipated increase in power; specific brake specifications have not been disclosed.

Testing programme and Nürburgring ambitions

Mercedes-AMG’s predecessor Black Series previously set leading production lap times at the Nürburgring. Spy sightings at the Nordschleife suggest the forthcoming Black Series will pursue an official lap time attempt. Currently, the AMG One holds a 6:29.09 lap recorded in 2024; the new Black Series would need to better that time to claim the top production-car position.

Multiple prototype runs around the Nürburgring are likely in the coming months as validation continues. Public reports place the model’s debut before the end of 2026 or possibly in 2027. Mercedes has indicated the car will serve as the basis for the next-generation GT3 race car currently in development.
