GM fits 2027 Colorado and Canyon with 350 hp L4B engine

General Motors fitted the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon with a revised 2.7-liter L4B turbocharged four-cylinder producing 350 hp and 617 Nm. The update adds a stronger turbo, thermal management, lower NVH and revised internals.

General Motors has equipped the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon with a new L4B turbocharged four-cylinder producing 350 hp and 617 Nm of torque.

The upgraded 2.7-liter L4B raises output from the previous 310 hp to 350 hp and 617 Nm while adding a strengthened turbocharger, active thermal management, reduced vibration and noise, upgraded fuel injection, and redesigned pistons.

GM originally planned the L4B for the full-size Silverado and Sierra, but the same engine is now fitted to the smaller Colorado and Canyon.

The Colorado and Canyon use an eight-speed automatic transmission; the Silverado and Sierra pair the L4B with a 10-speed automatic.

Despite the jump in power and torque, GM says towing capability is unchanged. The two trucks previously offered roughly 3.5 tonnes of towing capacity.

Off-road trims carry the same towing figures: ZR2 and AT4X trims tow 2,720 kg, while more extreme Bison and AEV editions tow up to 2.5 tonnes.

At 350 hp the L4B brings the midsize Colorado and Canyon into the power range normally occupied by six-cylinder and hybrid drivetrains. By comparison, the Ford Ranger Raptor uses a 405 hp six-cylinder, and Toyota's Tacoma I-Force Max hybrid produces 326 hp.
